Earth Day 2018

BCC Walkathon 2017

Earth Day 2018 is this weekend, Sunday, April 22.

Nobody wants to sail with trash in the water, yet it seems more and more often we see photos on the internet of waterways polluted with plastic and other trash. Let's be part of the solution. Cleanups are scheduled around the Bay. Spend a little time this weekend cleaning your local shoreline before heading over to the Spinsheet Crew Party and the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show.

Here are a few of the many ways to volunteer or join others for watershed education.

Annapolis's Greenscape is  is a city and community partnership for beautification, clean-up, and planting in public spaces. The public is invited to help from Saturday, April 21 from  8 a.m. to noon at locations throughout Annapolis.

Anacostia River Clean-Up and Celebration
Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday April 21 to clean along the Anacostia River Watershed. A celebration at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium follows.

Annapolis Maritime Museum hosts Earth Day By the Bay, a free family-friendly event at Back Creek Nature Park, where your family can learn about water health and recycling, in addition to enjoying arts and crafts and free kayak rides.

Elizabeth River Project's Earth Day Weekend for Kids will bring an afternoon of celebrating the Earth and the Elizabeth River. Play games, make crafts, borrow insect nets and binoculars, or see some river critters up close. Stop by Paradise Creek Park Nature Park any time Saturday, April 21 between 1 and 4 p.m.

Earth Day Open House at the Anita C. Leight Estuary Center on Otter Point Creek in Harford County. Stations will be set up with activities throughout the day, including seed planting, fish games, tie dye, and more. Bring old electronics to drop off at the e-cycling station.
