Registration is now open for the 2013 edition of the Annapolis to Newport Race, which starts Friday, June 7. The Notice of Race is posted on the official race website where online registration is available.
Annapolis Yacht Club (AYC) and New York Yacht Club (NYYC) work together to put on this classic, biennial distance race. Annapolis and Newport are two of the premier sailing towns on the East Coast, and AYC and NYYC both permit participants to enjoy the full use of their clubhouses.
Racers will experience a variety of conditions on the course. After leaving Annapolis, the 475-mile course heads south for 120 miles from Annapolis to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, then east to the Chesapeake Light, and the final leg runs northeast to Newport.
In addition to the open divisions racing under IRC or PHRF, double-handed entries have their own division, and there is a start for traditional cruisers or racer-cruisers. GPS transponders will be used to keep track of each boat, so fans can follow their favorites as they make their way to Rhode Island.
