What an extraordinary experience!! After a week of training under the legendary skipjack Captain Andy McCown, I had two weeks as her relief Captain exploring the waters of the Chester Review as part of the Echo Hill Outdoor School's Summer programs. Sailing a skipjack is... different. :)
Century Club: Jason Fox
I love sailing Windsong... she is a beautiful boat that happens to be owned by great friends...
I spent some time on her doing relief work for Captain Corey, but also will be doing the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race on her this year... stay tuned!
Yup. I do these too.
5/9: Sailboat out of HHS. I don't remember which one this was, just that it was a big boat with engine issues.
7/something: Need to research this one. It was a powerboat at HHN.
This was a quick run down the Chesapeake in a J/90. That was a... ride.
Sometimes I get to drive a really nice motor yacht because people want to drink and have other people (i.e. me) take care of their boats). I don't mind... ;)
I'll drive just about anything...
This year I got to drive some fast things, including some teaching. So far:
A 2024 Sea Ray 290 at the DC Boat Show
A 2017 Sea Ray Amber Jack 27
A 2020 Regal Express 280
A 2024 Aviara 40 OB (ok, this boat was FAST... like REALLY fast)
A 2020 Boston Whaler
So I started off poorly this year in the sense that I jotted down a few things to add "eventually" to the Century Club board, but I didn't get the dates... Or just other random stuff, all on power boats (what can I say). Here we go:
At some point in the Spring, I helped Janet Neves (also on this list) move her boat to her new slip and provided some training.
Somewhere around that same time, a few of us went on a couple of evening dinghy rides around Spa and Back Creeks in Annapopolis. We might have been bar hopping... so forgive me for not remember this date... LOL.
I also took two trips this year (so far) and M/V Sojourn with George Potak. One trip was a run up to Annapolis in the late Spring, and the other was a trip over to Tilghman Island. That one was on 21 July... I remember that one!
On 6 September we took a quick spin in Herring Bay to knock the growth off the bottom...
It's easy to forget that we own a boat when I'm driving everyone else's boats all the time. Not that I mind driving a lot of boats, but it's also nice to sit back and enjoy your own boat every now and then.
S/V Fine Tuned is a 2019 Beneteau Oceanis 38.1.
Move Boat up and Back to Annapolis to teach at ASOS:
2/11 and 3/11
4/5 and 2/21 (solo trips)
6/16 and 6/23
An incredible solo sail to just get on the water: 5/26
Sailing with a big group of friends on 9/21.
We "raced" ourselves on Wednesday, 9/25 (Matt, Amanda, Heather and I).
Then Elena and I went out again the following Wednesday and 'raced'. We retired.
This was the last class before the Coast Guard deleted the required to actually row an actual boat...
This is a Summary page for days I drove for them.
Potomac Taxi (PT) 1: 4
PT2: 10
PT3: 5
PT4: 9
