Brad, Meredith and Cam joined Debbie and I for a peaceful sail across the bay. 5 to 8 knots from the northeast.
Century Club: Keith Donald
Westerly 5-10 knots. Good day to sail into the harbor and tack into Whitehall Creek. Lots of sailboat races -- Club 420s, lasers and optis.
Beth, Bill, John, Hannah and John Gudas joined Debbie and I to watch the fireworks in Annapolis harbor. Grilled steaks and shared stories of times past and present.
Debbie, Bruce and I sailed out to 2W and back to test the jib furler repair. East winds 5-10 knots, sunny, 80s.
Bruce, Steve and I sailed up the Severn in a 10-15 knot southerly. Once we reached Round Bay we tacked back down the river. The electric winches saved the day. 22 tacks in all. Once we approached Whitehall Creek the wind approached 25 knots with full jib and reefed main. All was well until the furler on the jib failed so we sailed into Rideout Creek and lowered the jib in the protected area.
Debbie and I spent four nights with CSSM members Elusive, Capricorn, Kayara, Moonshadow, Flow and Mystral. Our first Destination was Dun Cove. After 20 miles of upwind sailing we had engine failure at the entrance to Knapps Narrows and instead sailed around Tilghman Island arriving at Sunset. A decision was made to stay the second day at Dun Cove. That was wise and we had perfect Northerly sailing conditions to Solomon's Island. Flow, Moonshadow, Mystral and Mystic stayed at Zahniser's Marina. Our final night was in Fishing Creek off the Little Choptank. A nice southerly breeze came in around noon making for a pleasant sail to our destination. On our return to port, there was no wind but we did see about 50 dolphins off of Popular Island.
Debbie and I powered over to Back Creek for fuel and pump out. Brief sail on the return but very light air. In the afternoon, I sailed out and back into Whitehall Creek. South wind at about 5 knots. I tested the rerouted main sheet. Great improvement.
Debbie, Bruce and I tried out the new winch installed near the helm. It works! Light wind. Comfortable temperature.
Debbie and I took Impulse to City Dock and had breakfast at Chick 'n Ruth's. We concluded with a tour of Spa Creek.
Short haul at Whitehall Marina. Keel repair looks good. Zincs and prop good also. Afternoon sail in 5 knots from the south. To windward out of Whitehall Creek. Tacking made easy with new winches.
