A select group of Chesapeake Bay sailors will spend this weekend drinking mojitos, eating ropa vieja, and smoking cigars (maybe) as they wrap up the inaugural Miami to Havana Race, hosted by Coral Reef Yacht Club and Hemingway International Yacht Club. The race starts at 1 p.m. just south of the Miami harbor entrance for all IRC, PHRF, ORC, and Multihulls with a LOA of 30 feet or more.
Multiple boats have Chesapeake Bay sailors competing on them, and if anyone learned anything with the Conch Republic Cup a few weeks ago, it's that Bay sailors are some of the most anxious to get their passports stamped by Cuban immigration officials. For the Miami to Havana race, we have dozens of Bay sailors signed up and sailing on half a dozen boats. Keep an eye on Southerly (Chris Bell), Trebuchet (Marc Glimcher), Relativity (Hall Palmer), Thin Ice (Stuart Hebb and John Vincent), and Odette (Jasen Adams).

Two weeks ago, the Conch Republic Cup was delayed by a day due to conditions, and sailors reported winds in the 12-17 knot range with an Easterly breeze and six foot swell. Today, conditions are sunny and in the mid-60s with a northwest wind around 10-15 knots. Hopefully we'll have similar conditions for a drama-free crossing. Good luck to all who are racing, and remember to click back to spinsheet.com for results and updates!
