Healing day on the water with the people I love! I learned that to sight the line you watch a straight line between either the tetrahedron or a mark and the outer shroud which has an orange flag tied to it.
Century Club: Sarah Jordan-Crowe
We brought Happy Place back home after her very productive short haul.
14-16 it's and I got to drive the boat through tacks and to the finish today which was AMAZING. I learned to keep communication open with the main so they know when to ease so we don't round up and I learned that it's ideal to keep the wheel no more than 90 degrees so that you aren't losing speed from the direction of the rudder in the water.
We ended up having to do some repairs on Friday when I leaned that hose clamps can't be tightened by hand with a screwdriver, you have to use the ratcheting one. Then we lived out the idea that sailing plans are written in the sand at low tide and changed our plans to head out to St. Micheal's to go up to Annapolis instead. And we motored the whole way up to Annapolis due to zero wind and learned that's ok too. I learned that the speed from the speed wheel is much more informative for trimming since that's you're speed through water vs SOG is useful in determining how long it's going to take to get to your destination.
Installed a new electric bilge pump switch all by myself. It would take a novel to share everything that I learned.
Practice race. Had to shake off the cobwebs.
Got the lay of the land to install a new fresh water head system and a new bilge pump switch. Now I know where every hose in the boat goes.
Spent the night on Callisto and then it was beautiful Sunday morning with winds around 20k. We got safely off the dock, put our main up, sailed across the bay for a bit and managed to get back to our dock without any damage. We started checklists for leaving the dock and leaving the boat. Excited to get those laminated. We also got another knot stuck in the track on the boom when unfurling our main so we're going to need to look in to that.
Finished off the day with so much fun on the beach!
