Racing Roundup: May 26

We need another three-day weekend to get over this three-day weekend. But happy Memorial Day, awesome readers. Were you out on the water? Plenty of you were, racing in the Down the Bay Race between Annapolis and Hampton, or the Miles River Race between Annapolis and St. Michaels. Or maybe you weren't in Annapolis at all? Let me know where you were so we can make sure to include you. Whenever, wherever you were sailing, hopefully you had as good of a time on the water as we did here on the Middle Bay.

On Friday, May 22, 27 boats kicked off the 66th Down the Bay Race under perfect conditions. Winds were blowing out of the west at 11-14 knots, with puffs up to 25. Under gorgeous, blue skies, that means it’s going to be a fast, superfun trip down to Virginia.

Jim Muldoon's Andrews 80 Donnybrook  was the first over the line at 9:41 p.m. on Friday night. Unfortunately, the win wasn't big enough for Muldoon to win the race properly; the rest of PHRF A corrected over him and he ended up in 7th. Full results are here, recap is below.

Saturday morning, racers woke early and headed out under beautiful blue skies and winds in the 10-12 range for the Miles River Race. Our race photographer was on the course for the start, but had to put his camera down at one point and be on station for a multihull that capsized pre-start. However, his photos taken outside his time waiting for Sea Tow show just how much fun the race was.

Unfortunately, winds petered out and a few boats didn't finish within their time limits. But really, who cares? It was a great day to sail to St. Mikes. See the full gallery here. For the full list of results, click here.
