I spent some days in July in Maine and was lucky enough to get certified by https://www.sailmaine.org/ to skipper their J22s out in Casco Bay. The winds there were stronger and more sustained than what I was used to in Baltimore. A number of locals came out crewing with me and helped me learn the local area (and to be more aware of the sometimes brutal tides!). It was a great time! Managed to even go out on one of the schooners.

Back in July I started getting interested in going out on bigger boats, cruisers. I have managed to go out 10 times so far. One day was a trip on Lake Champlain. Others were overnights to places in the Chesapeake area -- Bodkin Bay, Annapolis, Whitehall, and Mill Creek. Other trips were shorter runs to learn the basics of cruisers (as compared to our smaller keelboats).

Combining a lot of entries into one is hopefully ok.

I have been skipper for member sails on https://www.downtownsailing.org/ dayfleet boats -- J22s and Sonar 24s -- going out nearly 30 times over the year so far. Sometimes it was with experienced skippers, sometimes with people new to sailing. When winds permitted, we would make it to the (remains of) the Key Bridge, but otherwise we would sail around Baltimore harbor in the local varied winds. We would practice techniques prob POB drills to using the traveler. Much fun was had over the year.

Not days of sailing exactly, but we did go out on a power boat to get to our dive sites, so we were ON the water. We learn a lot about currents and tides in the Caribbean as a result.

A group of us at https://www.downtownsailing.org/ have gone out sailing using our dayfleet boats -- J22s and Sonar 24s -- as often as we could starting back in January. Now that I am retired, I managed to go out 39 times so far! Usually it was a mixture of skippers as we practiced our skills in various wind conditions. One windy day of POB practice, I lost my hat due to an unexpected gust (lesson: clip your hat well!). We have had a lot of fun over the year.
