Race B-1: 6/5
Century Club: Robin Witte
Took the opportunity with the fabulous weather to go sailing with family and friends. What a beautiful day! Even our 2 year old granddaughter was having an awesome time. She made herself at home with Papa trying to steer the boat...no prompting from anyone.
Our normal Monday bottom cleaning was moved to Wednesday due to the Memorial Day holiday. The cleaning was moved to SMSA on Wednesday right before we were scheduled to race later in the evening. The boat got cleaned and then the weather started to look foul. We got back into our slip and not long after the bad weather set it. The race was supposed to be a Fleet Building Event and ultimately the race committee cancelled the evening race. So off to dinner with the crew.
Enjoyed Sunday of Memorial Day weekend with our friends aboard their Sea Ray named Nautic Times. Cruised around the Patuxent River, having a happy hour aboard their boat and enjoying a weekend with good friends.
What to do when the breeze is around 2 kts and you don't want to go and float in your smallboat? You take the big sailboat out with the nice engine and watch the smallboats float around the course, which was shortened.
With insufficient crew for Rakali and now waiting to have surgery on my shoulder, I elected to help Race Committee in lieu of sailing on the VX One, Water Rat
Another light air weekend race
Hopped on the RC boat to assist with running the race
During a bottom cleaning, the diver thought there was an issue with the bottom paint as he felt it was harder to clean than the previous year. The paint type was different than 2023, so we moved the boat to SYC, shorthauled the boat and had reps from the paint manufacturer to inspect the bottom. Result was that paint was fine, it's just a different feel from the prior paint
2023 we had numerous issues with using the Harken top down furler. At the Annapolis Sailboat Show we stopped by the Harken Booth, spoke to Peter Doyle and he was more than happy to do a test sail with us in the spring to see why it wasn't working as advertised.
We went out for the sail and as we noted it wasn't working properly. Peter thought the cable might be broken, so he took some measurements, grabbed our old cable and took it back to Harken. We received a new, slightly longer cable on 5/24 and will now go out with the crew in the next few weeks to test things out.
