#50, as in halfway to the SpinSheet Magazine Century Club AND 50 miles today, in heavy winds!
Our 14-day cruise of the Chesapeake Bay gut cut to 10 because of the heat and a mechanical issue. Today, it felt like we were loose change in the washing machine. Winds were 15-20, sometimes a sustained 20, gusting 25. To make matters worse, the wind was blowing in one direction, while the outgoing tide wanted to push the waves in the opposite direction. This is what is known as a “confused chop.” Our 40-year old Cape Dory 30 and the crew were up to the challenge. It was 50 miles down the Bay from Galesville on the West River to our home port in Solomons, MD. Oh, it’s good to be home!
