Today was exhilarating. The bridge tender was hesitant to open the bridge across the Alligator River due to high winds. They won't open it above 34 knots of wind speed. We then had a fast broad reach up the Alligator River under a single reefed jib. The 20 mile canal transit to the Pongo River was uneventful. We motor sailed down the Pongo River and across the Pamlico River. Our jib was double than triple reefed, as we rode the waves into our final destination in Eastman Creek. This was a well protected anchorage. We traveled 69 nm in eleven hours The decision to go the extra distance was based on tomorrow's forecast of a colder, rainy day. It was windy but I don't have actual wind readings since the wind instruments stopped working three days ago. Everyone had a chance to sail.
