Lauren called dibs on the perfect weekend for a St Michaels trip. This was one of the bucket list items for Menage a Trois (MAT). This trip was the real test of all the perks of the shallow draft (centerboard up) and fast speeds that MAT can make. The wind was stiff (20-30kts all weekend) and the waves were ~3ft, some of the bigger ones I've experience in the bay. We absolutely FLEW down to Kent Narrows on Friday. We got to the bridge in about 2.5 hrs and anchored just on the far side. We grounded her accidentally in the soft sand and just pulled up the centerboard and rudder, all was fine! The lack of concern was so lovely after years of worrking abour grounding a keel. I took Frank into land on the new TakaCat base for which he was not very good at yet... but we'll get there. In the morning we pulled anchor and sailed all the way up to St Michaels. We hit up the Maritime Museum and lots of the little shops. Concluded that the Blue Crab Cafe is the best coffee in town. Good a bit tipsy on wine and beer and went to bed early. In the morning we explored town a bit more and then took off for home. It was an upwind sail but we still made great time to the Narrows bridge. Once under we went to raise the main again and noticed so wearing on the baton ends so we decided not to risk it and sailed with just the jib making 7KTS!!! at about 40 degrees of 35-30kt wind into 3ft waves!!!! It shocked us how well she handled. All in all an amazing weekend.
