We left the anchorage at Tuckahoe Pt at 7 am and headed into strong north winds up the Alligator River. I was afraid they would close the Alligator River Bridge again, but fortunately the winds did not exceed the limit. The bridge tender timed the opening perfectly for us to continue without slowing down.
Once out in the Albermarle Sound, we could sail and motor-sail across with reefed main and Genoa. We averaged about 7.5 knots in to a NW wind. We continued up the North River to Coinjock Marina where we stayed a few days, waiting for the north winds to die down.
