Jeanneau sailboat owners' fall rendezvous at Bodkin Creek
Once again in September, there was a Jeanneau Sailboat Owners (JSO) gathering at Ralph and Margaret Marlett’s home on with its wide, wrap around deck overlooking Bodkin Creek. Originally planned for the previous week, high winds in the forecast made postponing the event for a week necessary. Luckily, many of the members were able to adjust their schedules to attend on the new date.
This year, one of the usual summer raft ups was also delayed due to weather conditions. Then it had to be cancelled altogether since nearly all potential attendees had other commitments on the raindate. Unusual for the club, no one stepped forward to host an event for the next couple of months. The end result was that this latest opportunity at the Marletts was one of the few times to gather with fellow sailors whom we all missed seeing most of the summer. It is always a delight to share stories of the summer’s sailing adventures.
A few boats began arriving starting in midafternoon on Saturday, September 14th. They either rafted up to Marlett’s boat at their dock or anchored separately and dinghied ashore. Several members arrived by car. As has been our custom, a bartender was there to offer Margaritas or mojitos. Attendees also brought drinks of their choice and contributed appetizers, side dishes, and desserts. A grill was available for guests to grill their own dinner selections. A glow-in- the-dark bracelet was a fun addition as the evening wore on and daylight faded away.
On Sunday members had breakfast aboard their own boats but joined everyone back on the deck for coffee and breakfast treats and more catching up. We exchanged stories amidst the delightful September weather; it was a pleasure for who remained.
