Relaxed and Pleasant Days Sailing With Singles on Sailboats

Singles on Sailboats skippers and crew enjoy time on the water.

“It’s always a good day when you get your boat out of the slip.” When Singles on Sailboats Skipper Gerry said this during our recent day sail, it captured my heart.

Leaving his boat’s slip mid-morning, we caught some light winds for a while… until we didn’t and were bobbing around at about 0.3 knots. And yet, none of us aboard minded. It was a beautiful day. The Bay view was serene and pleasing, and we were among friends (even though the other crew members and I had only just met skipper Gerry).

Singles on Sailboats members have a common interest in sailing and boating and a love for the gift of a beautiful Chesapeake Bay.

Relaxed and pleasant days on the water, such as this one, are some of the many gifts of the Singles on Sailboats (SOS) club. I almost always meet new people at an event or on a sail, and yet it is comfortable and easy, even for the more introverted of us.

Our members have a common interest in sailing and boating and a love for the gift of a beautiful Bay. However, there are many different members with different ‘stories,’ hobbies, and pursuits, which means it is never boring on a weekend sail because we get to learn about some of those activities. You end up with a gatherings like the weekend raftup we were sailing to with skipper Gerry, in the Wye River at Drum Point, with an assembly of new and old acquaintances for happy hour and happy talk.

SOS has a robust summer cruising schedule that begins in May with a couple of ‘shakedown’ day sails. The final sails of the season are cold day sails in early November. There are many options for sailing adventures. Cruises include many weekend/overnights, 3- or 4-day cruises, and an extended cruise to the Southern Bay.

Learn more about SOS at singlesonsailboats.org, where you can read our newsletter with the upcoming schedule of end-of-season sails as well as early winter plans. Finally, this December check out our entry in the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade!
