Compass Boating Club of the Chesapeake's end-of-the-season events are a time to savor cruising.
It’s hard to believe that fall is upon us and that Compass Boating Club of the Chesapeake has nearly completed our first sailing season as a new boating club. We began as a mere thought by founders Rich, Hank, and Leigh, and in less than a year have grown to an active group of boaters with many events under our sail-ties. Many thanks to those who chose to join us, participated, and have made this an enjoyable venture. We have met many new people and have visited many anchorages in the process.
The “Follow the Wind” mini-cruise start date was postponed a few days due to the aftermath of hurricanes Debby and Ernesto but well worth the wait. After the rains left and things calmed down, the temperatures were much more tolerable with cool evenings for peaceful sleeping conditions. From Worton Creek, the flotilla headed for the Sassafras, Georgetown, Still Pond, and other northern anchorages. We lost two boats with the delay (someone has to work!), but those who participated had some great sailing days and got to sleep under the Sturgeon Moon.
As we close out the season, in October we have one last official on-water event, the “Autumn Breeze Before the Freeze.” This is a sort of last chance weekend raft up before the winterizing and haul outs begin. Members should check under the Facebook page events tab for details and also keep an eye out for a flyer in your email.
Next up is preparing for the holidays and planning events for 2025. Members can submit ideas and wish-list destinations to us via email. Member input is one of the club’s best assets!
