When the invitation came to the office for us to join other members of the media on a once-in-a-lifetime day out with the Navy, we couldn't help but to be flattered. I quickly said that I would be interested in going and before I knew it, I was getting credentialed and given instructions about flying on a helicopter.
Fast forward to September 10th. At 6:30 a.m. I was crossing the Key Bridge and watching a beautiful sunrise. The clouds were burning off and I was super excited to be heading to Martin State Airport to get on a "bird" (I later found out that is was a MH-60S Knighthawk thanks to my friend Matt, who is a flight instructor for the Navy) and fly out to the USS Oak Hill, an LSD or dock landing ship, and then cruise in to the Star Spangled 200 in Baltimore.
I'll let the photos tell the story from here:
Thank you to the Navy for the opportunity. This experience is going to be hard to top!
