Joe Gillis: 100 Days on the Water

What a fantastic year on the water. I enjoyed every minute!

The goal to reach 100 days on the water was met October 28, with a single-handed, 220-mile, four-day trip down the Bay and back. Nothing was to stop me from reaching the 100 day milestone - not the cold of March, the summer rains, or the 30-knot winds in October.

Some of the highlights were witnessing dolphins in the Rhode River and the many day sails to Thomas Point light. I was able to sail with high-tech foiling moths, and with the first America's Cup replica. I visited the Pacific Northwest, and beautiful Hawai'i. I sailed past many of the lights on the Bay, and nestled in quiet coves.

I am not sure how next year could be any better, but I am certainly looking forward to it.
