Holiday Cheer Photo Contest: Take Off Your Gloves and Shoot

Capture the Beauty of Festive Chesapeake Boats To Win

Little known fact about the photo archives at the SpinSheet World Headquarters: we have hundreds of blurry or dark photos of boats decorated for the holidays and very few good ones! This holiday season it occurred to us that all of our readers have cameras in their pockets, yet we hadn’t yet asked them to take clear photos of the festive events on the waterfront. So, here’s our “ask” plus incentive for you to share a winning image:

It's not easy to capture a good lighted sailboat on a cold winter's night, but we keep on trying! This was from the Eastport YC Lights Parade 2018 by Heather Capezio

If you attend or participate in a lighted boat parade anywhere on the Chesapeake, or even if you just decorate your boat at the dock or on its jackstands or trailer, upload your best photo here to enter our holiday photo contest. The photo does not need to be of your own boat—it just has to be clear and pretty and festive! The photo does not need to be from 2023, but it does need to have been taken on the Chesapeake or its tributaries. This is NOT for a SpinSheet cover **, so it can be in portrait or landscape orientation. Photos may be taken from a smart phone or a high-end camera.

Upload your photo here to qualify for a $50 gift card, a one-year subscription to SpinSheet, and your image featured in the pages of the one and only sailing magazine on the Chesapeake Bay.

If you’d rather take powerboat photos than sailing ones, that’s okay, too. Upload those at this PropTalk contest link.

Questions? Email our editor. Otherwise, upload your winning photo here by December 20. Readers will vote for the winner.

** If your photo is strong enough for a cover shot, we will consider it for the December 2024 cover shot.
