Virtual club with land- and water-based activities.
Back Creek Yacht Club (BCYC) members gathered on Saturday February 1 for the Commodore’s Dinner. More than 20 members participated in the time-honored tradition to celebrate incoming commodore Chuck Kahle and first lady Ann Fiduccia. Eagle-eyed SpinSheet readers might remember from the January issue that Chuck was already hard at work in 2024 planning an exciting year of land and sea activities.
As a virtual club BCYC has no physical building to maintain, which allows us to enjoy a variety of venues for our land-based events, for example, our gathering at the home of rear commodore Tim Nelson and his wife Laura. A catered dinner in a casual home atmosphere allowed members to mingle over cocktails and appetizers while discussing (what else?) the upcoming 2025 float plan; some of us even stole a few glances at the hockey game on TV.
Members are already buzzing over the fun-filled season fleet captain Jerry Chappell is planning, including a cruise to Long Island Sound. In his remarks, commodore Chuck highlighted his emphasis on membership, noting that he is “looking forward to making new friends who will help the club create adventures.” Will you be one of them?
Even as commodore Chuck looks to grow membership this year, his tenure will be all about the people and ensuring that members enjoy the club and its activities. Helping him in this endeavor is vice commodore Kris Chappell who makes sure the club’s communication strategy meets the needs of our diverse membership of sail and power boaters and potential new members. Kris leads a group of dedicated members who represent the club in both digital and print media and ensures a consistent message.
As you contemplate your 2025 boating season, consider sharing it with a group of like-minded individuals. Take a look at the BCYC calendar at backcreekyc.org and consider joining one of our events to get to know us a little better. #welcomeaboard
