How Many Skippers Does It Take To......
The Philadelphia Sailing Club (PSC) had a plethora of skilled sailors on our Labor Day Sail! (PSC calls them ECMs, short for experienced crew members) Our trip ECMs, Dave Larson and Bobby Dubois are shown planning the weekend ternary, with help from Amand Hahn, Bob Bedell Emma Jimmyer, mostly hidden (ECM), and Kent Main (ECM). I happy to report too many ECMs did not delay our departure.
We chartered from Bay Sail in Havre de Grace. The crew enjoyed Friday night dinners at several of the good restaurants Havre de Grace has to offer.
The Chesapeake gave us three great days of sailing along with weather that was warm enough to allow us to swim in the evenings but cool enough for great sleeping. The first night we anchored in Worton Creek. The second night was spent in the Sassafras River just below Georgetown. Monday morning, we saw the only pink, yes pink boat I've ever seen. Better yet, it was decorated as a pig.
As typical on our trips, we had a mix of skill levels on my boat. It was fun to see the beginner on our boat, Mike, get to handle the boat and lines. I remember when I was at the skill level many moons ago. Sally was our intermediate sailor. My husband Bob and I were the advanced sailors. Bobby was our ECM. All of us had fun and shared sailing tips and techniques. And, if you want to be a better sailor at any skill level, you need TOB (time on a boat). Look at PSC's web site to see our 2013 trip list and plan to join us next year!
Hope to see you on the Bay,
Jane Harrington
