The NSHSA 2013 sailing season was filled with a mixture of themed rafts, education, ‘cruisers fun-racing’ and long distance cruises. Throughout the year there were opportunities to expand the use of your sailing skills and experiences, broaden your sailing horizons and continue to develop long and lasting relationships with some of best people in the area.
The club hosted a series of Captain’s seminars as part of the DelMarVa Circumnavigation trip which included topics such as navigation and emergency repairs. Later in the season there was a Close-Quarter docking and maneuvering raft which included both dockside whiteboard discussions and on the water demonstrations. These were a great way to learn from and share techniques with fellow sailors.
The club offered opportunities to expand your sailing horizons by organizing a DelMarVa circumnavigation, a Block Island Cruise and this Fall several members headed to the southern Bay to enjoy warmer weather. In addition to these cruises the Club initiated a program called ‘Passport to Adventure’ to encourage members to visit different ports, rivers, creeks and to document lighthouses sightings around the Bay.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, was the time spent with fellow sailors. There were a number of themed rafts at various locations throughout the Bay. Each raft presented an opportunity to get out, use your boat, enjoy time with friends and, if so inclined, to participate in a Fun Race.
The NSHSA typically sails north of the Annapolis Bay Bridge and welcomes all new members. The website provides further information about the club, its activities and purpose.
