Winter once again. For the majority of the Northern Star Hunter SA (NSHSA) members this means winterization, boats on the hard, completing long awaited boat projects, time to catch up on reading and home chores and reflecting on the past season. It's also a time when club members host 'stone or brick frigates rafts' to maintain relationships during the long winter months. Not to be deterred however the 2014 events schedule has started to come together and we already started 'floating' ideas around educational programs, social rafts and cruise opportunities to make the 2014 sailing season even more memorable.
As an example on the education front we are currently organizing a unique opportunity to renew or receive the USCG OUPV Captain’s License (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels; commonly referred to as the ‘Six Pack’) at a significant discount. These would be special classes (held at Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace) with testing periods organized for our Membership and friends.
Lastly, several NSHSA members are experiencing the 'endless summer'. This year four members decided to head south for the winter with the Bahamas and the Florida Keys as destinations. Reports have them all enjoying the trip, visiting various locations enroute with only minor encounters with bridges to re-align windex's, anchor lights and VHF antennas. Despite these minor inconveniences warmer weather, clear water and beautiful sunsets await. To make us feel at home we even found the November issue of Spinsheet at a marina in Marathon.
The NSHSA typically sails north of the Annapolis Bay Bridge and welcomes all new members. The website provides further information about the club, its activities and purpose
