Skippers: Race Your Classic Yacht to St. Michaels This Spring!
Join the 126-year old classic yacht ELF, the Jersey catboat SILENT MAID, and many other classic sailing yachts for the 4th annual Elf Classic Yacht Race – a true yachtsman’s race. The Eastport Yacht Club in Annapolis will serve as the departure point for this sailing classic to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum in St. Michaels, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2014.
This Classic Yacht Restoration Guild (CYRG) event recreates the traditions of yacht racing of the 1880’s when the races began on shore with skippers rowing to their boat on mooring or anchor and making sail, then reversing the process at the finish – no boat is finished until the skipper signs the race log on the grounds of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. It's great fun to sail in... and to watch!
Please consider joining or sponsoring this 4th annual event, which helps raise funds for the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, the homeport for ELF on the Chesapeake and the CYRG.
