What’s “Day-on-the-Bay” and “Piloting on the Water Training?”

RSPSBurgee On this day our Rockville Sail and Power Squadron members will get to choose to sail or to try motor boating or “trawlering” on another member’s boat. A picnic brings everyone together after the “Day-on-the-Bay.”

During our “Day-on-the-Bay” there is a portion of the Piloting Class offered which includes: Simulated failure of all electronics at sometime while navigating with GPS and reverting to Dead Reckoning. Also: taking bearings, plotting courses and checking existing conditions against chart datum. Stf/Cdr Alan Karpas, National Chairman, CPR/First Aid Committee, USPS Safety Committee teaches the “On the Water” portion of the Piloting class.

Watch the sunset over the water and enjoy the camaraderie of fellow boaters. The picnic begins with wine and cheese and soft drinks, continues with grilled goodies and goes until the S’mores are gone.

Rockville Sail and Power Squadron: Come for the education, stay for the friends.
