Completed trips this season:
Summer Solstice Chesapeake Trip June 21-23, 2014: Perhaps it was the magic of the summer solstice, or the fact that is was the first trip of the season, or that June on the Chesapeake is fantastic…..but we chartered 5 boats to fit everyone who signed up! In addition, three boats from the Philadelphia Sailing Club joined us for the Saturday night raftup. We were a rare 8boat raftup in Rock Creek celebrating Summer Sailstice. Sunday night, after a great day of sailing, we enjoyed the pool and hot tub at Castle Harbor Marina, Kent Island.
On Water Training July 12-13, 2014: Leaving out of Rock Hall, this weekend was devoted to hands on training. There were two boats of folks who practiced close quarter maneuvering, rescue, raftup exercises, sail trim, tacking and controlled jibe. Effective communication, both onboard and VHF, was also reviewed.
Maine Coast September 6-13, 2014: We chartered from Johanson, Rockland, ME and visited Ducks Harbor at Isle Au Haut, Harborside Hotel, Spa & Marina in Bar Harbor and Belfast. We had a layover day to enjoy Bar Harbor. We cooked lobsters on board, explored the town, reprovisioned as necessary. Some folks rented bikes and explored trails in Acadia National Park. Then we set sail for Belfast, ME to visit an old friend of the club and explore this popular Penobscot Bay town. On our way into Belfast a front moved in and brought with it driving rain...and winds up to 27 KM! We reefed our sails and flew through the water on our 40’ C&C and 44’ Pearson. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset in quiet Cradle Cove the last night. A great ending to a great trip.
