On September 9th a dozen Corinthian boats from the Annapolis and Philadelphia fleets docked at The Inner Harbor East marina, in the very center of the city of Baltimore, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Baltimore. This battle was a pivotal event in the War of 1812 and was the inspiration for Francis Scott Key’s poem ‘The Defense of Fort McHenry’ which later, with the verses set to music, became ‘The Star Spangled Banner", the U.S. national anthem.
The event was organized by Past Annapolis Fleet Captain John Pasley with a pot-luck dinner at the marina on the opening evening organized by Brian & Marj Callahan. On the following day from their prime location the Corinthians were able to view the arrival of the fleet of tall ships sailing into Baltimore to mark the anniversary, plus an additional twenty or so other naval and commercial vessels from all around the world.
