The Back Creek YC's last event of 2014 was its December 14, 2014, Holiday Party and Yankee Swap Gift Exchange held at the Oyster Cove Clubhouse in Grasonville, MD, hosted by Michelle and Richard Sanger with Candy and Ben Wilson, where members enjoyed a feast of appetizers, Roast Turkey Breast; Special Brisket from Adam’s Grill Restaurant, mashed potatoes, cranberry relish, holiday Farm Salad, rolls and butter, and a variety of seasonal desserts. Those attending provided a new, used, priceless, or unwanted gift wrapped in a festive manner. The swap allows recipients to select wrapped gifts, or to claim gifts those selecting earlier received, instead of receiving the next scheduled wrapped package. This resulted in constant swapping throughout the event. A variety of useful gifts and ones not so much so were enjoyed by all. A stuffed duck and a trio of wines were among the coveted items.
On December 4th, Club members joined the Midnight Madness throngs for a festive evening starting with dinner at Galway Bay in Annapolis, followed by a group stroll on Maryland Avenue, State Circle, and Main Street with digressions along the way to enjoy the holiday spirit with musical performances (some participated in Bell Ringing), mixing with carolers, and sampling hospitality provided by downtown merchants that kept open until midnight for this spectacular community party full of all kinds of special treats.
For 2015, Club events in January, February, and March include a January 9 Happy Hour, a Season Opening Event on the 17th, a Happy Hour on February 7, and a Chinese New Year’s Party on the 21st. We also will be visiting the Newport News Mariners Museum and also a possible overnight at the Cove Point Light House.
