PRSA's Rookie Regatta and More

The Potomac River Sailing Association (PRSA) wrapped up its 2014 sailing season with our Annual General Meeting and Awards Banquet on Saturday, November 15. We recognized the top finishers in each of our one-design fleets (Albacores, Buccaneers, Lightnings, Multihulls) for our Spring Racing Series and our Fall Racing Series.

Overall, we completed over 40 races in each of these classes in 2014!  We also carried on the tradition of the annual President’s Cup regatta over the weekend after Labor Day, welcoming over 30 boats for the Potomac’s oldest one-design regatta.  In addition, 2014 saw the addition of two new regatta traditions in PRSA: a “Rookie Regatta” in which crews or new sailors skipper the boats, and a “PRSA One Design Open” in which results were scored using a boat-on-boat handicap system rather than by one-design class.  Both were great fun, and both ideas will come back around in our 2015 season.  Finally, at the AGM we awarded our annual perpetual trophies to recognize association members that have made outstanding contributions to PRSA: the Founder’s Award (Jeff Neurater); the Fleet Captain’s Award (Michael Heinsdorf); the Nabeel Alsalam Award (Lee Sayasithsena) and the Yates Dowell III Award (Nabeel Alsalam).  A complete list of the season’s results as well as other details on our awards and the year’s activities can be found on the PRSA website.

Now that we’re into the winter season our Laser sailors are frostbiting.  They will keep our racing tradition going until our other classes return to the water in the spring!
