PRSPS Welcomes New Members

I do solemnly pledge to:  Abide by the Bylaws of the United States Power Squadrons; Promote high standards of navigation and Seamanship; Maintain my boat and operate it legally; Render assistance whenever possible; And conduct myself in a manner that will add Prestige, honor and respect to the United States Power Squadrons.

This is the Pledge made by all new members of the Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron and again when they are appointed as Officers of the Board.  The Squadron’s annual “Change of Watch” was held this past week and Robert Blevins was sworn in as the Squadron’s new Commander.  He then swore in the rest of his Board to include Laura Magdeburger, Executive Officer; Daniel Cordell, Educational Officer; Robert Killius, Treasurer; Patrick Farrar, Administrative Officer; Robert Connelly, Chaplain; Ginger Latyak, Secretary;  and Charles Latyak as Flag Lieutenant.

The new Board will help the Patuxent River Sail and Power Squadron, also known as the Southern Maryland Boating Club, to continue to serve area boaters as the premier source for public boating education and boating activities as it has done since 1953.

Members are dedicated to promoting safe boating through education, providing community service, and “having fun.”  Every year, members provide over 200 free boating safety checks to the public and “America’s Boating Courses” are held throughout the year.  The next ABCs of Safe Boating will be held Tuesday, 5 May, at the Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Lusby.  To register for this class or to find out more about the Squadron, call 301-475-3883 or visit our website:  www.usps.org/localusps/patuxent.
