Catalina Fleet 3 had a wonderful year in 2014! Both water and land based events were numerous and well attended, from our Annual Memorial Day Wine Tasting Raft Up to the Fall Meeting. We have even added some new faces to our club.
We were sorry to see Bill and Donna Marie Gawne sell their Catalina 36, Elusive, but we were happy to have the boat stay in the Bay and look forward to adding the new owners as members!
The Fall Meeting, held this year at the Kentmorr Restaurant, was attended by nineteen Fleet 3 members who enjoyed crab cakes, oysters and more. It was a windy, blustery day and crossing the Bay Bridge was scary, but worth the trip. By then, all of the boats that will be hauled, have been and those lucky enough to be headed south for the winter have gone.

Fleet 3 will have a Spring Meeting on April 11, 2015 to finalize the 2015 Sailing calendar and to catch up on what went on over the winter. The location is not yet decided. The first sailing event will likely be the Annual Memorial Day Wine Tasting!
Fleet 3 also plans to participate in a global sailing event on the summer solstice, as we have the past couple of years to celebrate sailing. So get out and sail on the weekend of June 20, 2015 and join the Summer Sailstice 2015! This official event card was being distributed at the Annapolis Sailboat Show.
This winter we were fortunate to be able to visit with Fleet 3 friends in Florida. Jeff and Barbara Banks were our hosts for our five day escape from the worst February in years! Less than ideal Florida weather was infinitely better than the weather we left behind in Pittsburgh.
In Florida we were able to walk on the beach at Sanibel Island and meet for lunch with other Fleet 3 members that have also escaped the northeast, either permanently or temporarily.
As I am writing this we are on the first day of daylight savings time for 2015, so eventually spring is really going to arrive. The snow is still piled up here, but birds are returning, the days are getting longer, and there is the feel of spring in the air (if only for us Yankees).
