Ahoy Dickerson Sailors, It looks like we will have the largest turn out ever to celebrate the Dickerson Associations 50th. Anniversary.
Bill Dickerson was a man that sold and built your Dickerson on a hand shake and truly made a sound boat. In the 1960's the Dickerson Simplissima caught the yachting world by surprise and it was one of the first really cruising sailing ketches.
Tom Lucke and Ted Reed and Don Griffin expanded the Dickerson legacy by building 32, 35, 36, 37, 41 and 50 foot Dickersons so now when sailors pull up to a dock it is not unusual for someone to say. " Is that a Dickerson?"
The Dickerson people are like their boats. They love the bright work and are like hands on artists. God bless our friend Lynn Stearns who loved her Dickerson and passed away in February at 94 and took photos of her 35 foot wooden Dickerson when it was being built in 1968. And Commodores Dave and Mary Hazen who put us all to shame in their 35 foot wooden ketch Why Not.
Of course they stripped the boat so there was not even a bottle of Gin aboard. But they were magic and when they crossed that starting line no one could touch them. And we are continually thankful for our Secretaries Dick Young and the late Past Commodore Hank Dodson and his wife who have guided the Association for over five decades.
So this is a very special Rendezvous and we hope you can come to help us celebrate this Chesapeake Treasure.
Daniel and Louise Pomerleau are sailing their Dickerson 41 Douce Folie 1 from Montreal Canada to join us. Kerry and Kris O'Malley are bringing their classic 59 foot Bugeye Chesapeake to Oxford. Jeff Stephenson is sailing his Dickerson 41 CAVU from Jacksonville, Florida and past Commodore Barry Creighton is bringing the 2015 Directories on his D37 Crew Rest with a sailing fleet from Southern Virginia. Others are coming from New England and other ports to join in this historic event.
