Swapping Stories and Sipping Wine

Fleet 3 held the spring meeting on April 11 to finalize the 2015 sailing calendar and to catch up on what went on over the winter. The meeting took place at Pirate’s Cove with about 25 in attendance. The first on-the-water event was the annual Memorial Day Wine Tasting Raft Up in Galesville on the West River. We had eleven boats represented with two couples coming by car. The event was hosted by the Jack’s on Sally J.

Boats in attendance were Merlin, Bonnie Dew, Glympse IV, Ad-Nily-Bot, Catnip, S’Wonderful, Jubilee, Dream Catcher, and Revelry. A C-350 also joined us and we enjoyed the company of Pete and Sheila on Cinquale. Pete and Sue Econ came by car and were overnight guests on board Merlin. As is our custom, delicious dishes were shared, wine was consumed (small amounts were spilled) and stories were swapped.

Sunset on Lloyd Creek Sunset on Lloyd Creek

On Sunday, five boats departed for Lloyd Creek, just past Shaw Bay on the Wye River. NOAA predicted light winds, but that changed as we made our way out to the Bay with 15 knots on the beam as we passed the Rhode River. The winds held up for the sail across the Bay and most of us ended up with sails reefed to some extent to keep harmony on board. Fortunately the winds calmed as we anchored and gathered for appetizers and beverages. It ended up being a very educational event with Andy and Toby both sharing some history of the surrounding area.

Fleet 3 also had a raft up on June 6th in Leed Creek off the Miles River and watched the Triple Crown win on the water to make it even more memorable. We hope to have a good turnout on June 20th for the 2015 Summer Sailstice event that is taking place worldwide. Get out and sail!
