In Washington, DC studies continually find a need for additional slips, yet we are losing near 100 slips due to an unexpected and unexplained closure of Buzzard Point Marina by the National Park Service. Please support affordable and accessible sailing by adding your voice to our petition, writing your representative or senator on our behalf, (we don't have either of those in DC), or anything else you can think of.
Buzzard Point is an historic DC marina dating over 50 years, and has allowed DC boaters easy access to the water and to affordable boating for generations. Letters were sent to boat owners in early September 2015 informing them that the marina is slated to close December 31, 2015.
There are few other affordable and accessible nearby options for Buzzard Point boaters in DC to dock their 58 boats, which will likely force many to sell or move farther outside the District. Buzzard Point boat owners and our allies across the city are ready and willing to actively engage with NPS to discuss how to keep the marina open.
