Sailing Gone Wild Seminar at West River Sailing Club

Come to the West River Sailing Club on Saturday, March 19, 2016 10AM-1PM

This is a presentation on two sailing races that are on the fringes of our sport.  We have club members and local sailors that have participated in and are currently racing in these events.  They will share their experiences:

  1. The Tybee 500 is a 500-mile race in the Atlantic Ocean from Islamorada, Florida, to Tybee Island, Georgia, through the ocean surf and open waters in 18 to 20-foot beach catamarans.  The race occurs over a 6-day period.  It was last raced in 2011.  Keith Chapman will present.
  2. The Everglades Challenge is an unsupported, expedition style adventure race from Tampa Bay to Key Largo for kayaks, canoes, and small boats. The distance is roughly 300 nautical miles depending on your course selection. There is a time limit of 8 days or less.  Jahn Tihansky will present his 2014 experience in a highly modified Flying Scot and his current 2016 efforts in sailboat that I’m very curious to see.  The official web site is here

Our food service, Real Food, will be offering breakfast before and a Caribbean Buffet ($12/person) after the presentations.
