Labor Day 2017: Here’s your SpinSheet racing roundup for the weekend of September 2-4. It was a mixed bag of conditions this weekend, but one of them was constant: wind! Saturday brought early morning rains to the region that let up in some parts by the afternoon, but it sure felt like fall with the cool temperatures and fresh to moderate breeze! Sunday brought more wind and some sunshine.
Annapolis Labor Day Regatta (ALDR)
For this fantastic two-day event hosted at Eastport Yacht Club and Annapolis Yacht Club, sailors experienced big wind, rain, sunshine and more wind, and great party events.

Stingray Point Regatta
From Lin McCarthy's Southern Bay Racing News You Can Use: Working around rotten weather and rottener forecasts for Friday and Saturday, racers at the 2017 STINGRAY POINT REGATTA, refused to cave to the elements. The threats and spitting rain on Friday did not deter seventeen (17) boats from doing the “pre-regatta” mid-distance race around marks in the Bay at the mouth of the Piankatank River.
Saturday morning however was a different story. About one-third of the regatta fleet ventured out in cold (yes! wet, windy, soggy, cold!), and then returned to the protection of Jackson Creek after giving a shot to the southeast winds (16-18 knots) and 3-4 foot (and growing) seas. With the prediction of thunderstorms coming, the race chairman declared racing suspended for the day and the party-ing lamp was lit. The evening dinner, band, and plenty of sailing tales made for a memorable moment.
Sunday turned out to be worth the wait. The fleet (34 boats of 40 entered) got in 3 races in lovely breezes, which did not peter out until close to the deadline for starting another race. To put the cherry on top, the wind had gone round to the west, no more choppy seas with significant rollers and there was sunshine. It was all worth the wait.
