Racing Roundup: June 4-5

Let's start with the big buzz around the SpinSheet office: our publisher Mary Ewenson has taken home the Southern Bay Race Week Boat of the Regatta Award for Terminally Pretty in the Viper Class! Ewenson and her husband Geoff had an exceptional seven bullets over the three days of racing. Nice work, SBRW.

The full reason is that because of the Newport to Bermuda Race, only 11 boats were entered. Still bites a big one, though. Anyway, Let's get on to something less depressing.

Over 80 boats showed up to the Cedar Point One Design Regatta held in Westport, CT over the weekend, and among those were a few Bay boats. Bill Sweetser did well, coming in second place in the J/109 class onboard Rush (12 boats and just two points out of the lead). J/70 racer Jonathan Pollak of Bawlmer (hon) came in sixth place in the 17-boat fleet. Full results are here.

And if a picture is worth a thousand words, a T2P.tv video of your boat and crew is worth a thousand nights of bragging rights at the Boatyard.

If you tried to park at SSA over the weekend, you may have had a hard time due to the arrival of over 60 Snipes coming in to Naptown for the North Americans and Colonial Cup Regatta. The top Bay boat was sailed by the Chesapeake Bay's most famous Ladies Who Punch Carol Cronin and Kim Couranz, who came in 10th.

The top four boats came from San Diego and Miami. Which is interesting because I always figured that San Diego and Miami were just about man buns and fish tacos. But apparently you can sail there, too. Who knew. Anyway, Dan Phelps's full gallery, making a weird looking little boat look like a total bada$$, is here.

Doing good things for the sailing scene and for cancer patients, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society brought their 24th annual Leukemia Cup Regatta to Annapolis on Saturday with almost 100 boats participating. The biggest class was the Harbor 20, with 24 boats. To participate, boats had to meet fundraising goals of $3500. Most surpassed that amount, bringing in unprecedented numbers to help find a cure. Here are the top three in each class:
