CRAB, CCCup, and Olivia updates: As you prepare for today’s solar eclipse, here’s your SpinSheet racing roundup for August 19-20. Two big SpinSheet-sponsored events unfolded—100 miles apart—this weekend. First up…
The Boatyard Bar & Grill Regatta for CRAB
In its 10th year, this regatta has proven to have staying power. It’s weathered canceled racing due to tropical storms and dead calm; it’s been held in perfect sailing breeze…. And sometimes, as was the case on Saturday, the wind got pretty light and fluky, reminding us that it is indeed August on the Chesapeake, and hey, we tried. The regatta is all about the party and raising money for CRAB, and in that respect, every participant, volunteer, and donor won! At the party, enough money was raised to buy a new Beneteau First 22 for CRAB--and then some. WOW. Thank you, generous racers!
We should give a special shoutout to Kevin Detwiler, CRAB racer and past winner, who toughed it out and won again! Also, way to go Harbor 20 fleet for coming out in numbers and once again winning the North Sails Award for most one-designs on the start line. FIND ON THE WATER PHOTOS HERE. ....

The Leo Wardrup Memorial Cape Charles Cup
In the only destination race on the Southern Bay, competitors race from Little Creek to Cape Charles for a great party and back to Buckroe Beach on Sunday. This event is hosted by Broad Bay Sailing Association. In her Southern Bay Racing News You Can Use, Lin McCarthy writes: After 5 hours on a hot and slick Bay with the current ebbing (England was looking like an option for some boats), the race was called and the motorized dash to the party at Cape Charles began. Sunday morning, however, offered enough breeze for 66 boats to sail the shortened Cape Charles to Buckroe course. Other than the wind issues, the weather was good – no rain or thunderstorms (an August nemesis) ever threatened. All in all, at the Saturday party the food was good, the band was great, and everybody had a good time."
Note that the Schooner Virginia competed! A little warmup for the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, perhaps? Nice to see her in the mix….

Velocity in San Francisco
We heard that Marty Roesch, the Annapolis-based J/111 sailor, won his class last weekend in the Aldo Alessio regatta out of St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco in anticipation of the J/111 Worlds next week, also out of SFYC. Way to go, Marty!
