Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge

The wind gods came and went and came and went at the 2019 Screwpile Lighthouse Challenge held Saturday through today, yet Mother Nature managed to allow the race committee to get off five total races despite a windless Sunday, thanks to today’s decent breeze. Thanks to the Southern Maryland Sailing Association for hosting the annual event. Unfortunately, we were unable to get on-water photos this year, so if you were down in Solomons and took some, please do share them via [email protected].

CCV MOONLIGHT TRIANGLE.

A  late-in-the-day start for any race this past sweltering  weekend proved to be a good idea. The Moonlight Triangle Race  always starts in the late afternoon (5pm) with the plan for a moonlight distance race. The plan worked fine and racers got in a pleasant race in moderate breeze throughout the evening. Everyone had crossed the finish line by 11 pm.

Twenty-four (24) boats completed the courses – 20.9nm for PHRF A and 14.2 nm for PHRF B/C and Non-Spin.

RESULTS:

PHRF A (8 boats) 1.Riff Raff, Don DeLoatch;  2.Remedy, Will Roberts; 3. Feather, Phil Briggs.

PHRF B/C (10 Boats) 1.Callinectes, Ben Cuker;  2.Rumble, Ben Weeks;  3.Blue Jacket, Andy Armstrong.

PHRF Non-Spin (6 boats) 1.Halaha, Jeff Rogers;  2.Black Widow, Ken Copeland;  3.Tilt, Cliff Porter.  Principal Race Officer – John Ritter.

The next CCVR race will be the Founders Race, August 24th.

LAST REMINDER - THE HAMPTON SPRINTS – July 27

Enter now – racing group assignments will be made soon. Big boat racing with a one-design feel - small fleets (3-5 boats) - multiple races (5-6), short courses (1.4nm).
