The Maritime Republic of Eastport was the overall victor in the 2014 Slaughter Across the Water, aka the Tug-o-War. Winning five out of seven matches that pitted firefighters, bartenders, Midshipmen, police, and residents from all over Maryland, Eastport reclaimed their title for the 17th annual competition after losing it by the same margin last year.
The tug involves a 1700-foot long cable extending across Spa Creek between Annapolis and the Eastport peninsula. The Slaughter Across the Water was conceived after Eastport residents lodged a formal complaint with the city of Annapolis for temporarily closing the Spa Creek Bridge. The Tug raises money for local charities.
