2023 we had numerous issues with using the Harken top down furler. At the Annapolis Sailboat Show we stopped by the Harken Booth, spoke to Peter Doyle and he was more than happy to do a test sail with us in the spring to see why it wasn't working as advertised.

We went out for the sail and as we noted it wasn't working properly.  Peter thought the cable might be broken, so he took some measurements, grabbed our old cable and took it back to Harken.  We received a new, slightly longer cable on 5/24 and will now go out with the crew in the next few weeks to test things out.

We knew it was going to be breezy, but the weather forecasters were off the mark, way off the mark.

What should have been sustained winds in the upper teens, turned into the mid to upper 20's with gusts to 50+.  Only 3 boats on the starting line, we were first up to the Choptank mark and then the "fun" happened.  Needless to say, we tore the mainsail, one large hole and several small ones and lost all the battens in the jib.  We sailed downwind to PR1, where we took down the main to salvage the sail, turned into the Patuxent River and finished under jib alone.

A beautiful day for sailing, but your phone goes overboard in the slip before the race.  So you call the local diver, get your phone back, miss the start of the race by 20 minutes, but go out sailing anyway.  Why?  Because it's a beautiful day to just sail.

With Rakali still on the hard and getting her yearly maintenance, we were invited to join Jim and Barb Whited for an afternoon of sailing on their boat on a beautiful February day.

Had another opportunity on a beautiful winter day to go sailing with our friend Ali and her daughter Kate.  As we ventured out into the river, the wind gods had other thoughts and there was lack of wind.  However, a bad day on the water is better than the alternative and when you're with a good friend, great conversation, a just being out on the water, the day was fantastic.

It's that time when the boat gets pulled from the water, complete the winterization and start looking at the list of winter projects to keep her in great shape.  Until 2024, Rakali....
