Final race of the season! Finally feeling like I'm starting to get into a groove on the jibsheet. So grateful to Jayne Durden.

The weather finally cooperated for us to anchor out in Hering Bay. We had a magical evening where the kids each caught several fish and they had fun putting the crab pot out and checking on it.

The night was rough, there was minimal wind and what there was was coming from the south so it seemed likeit should have been perfect but there were waves (not that big, like 1-2ft) that were hitting us right across our beam which was making the boat roll like crazy (dishes were crashing),somehow magically the kids didn't wake up but Colin and I had it rough, even sleeping seperate.

The next day we sailed out into the bay and back (once the wind chose to join us). We noticed that now that Colin and I are more comfortable with what we're doing it's easier for us to involve the kids in the various sailing tasks which they are absolutely loving, especially G.

I was so stressed from life and all of its demands when we left the dock and by the time we pulled back in I was so much more balanced, grounded, and at peace. I'm so glad I came out tonight even if I had to get a sitter while my husband was out of town. Mommy's race time is a non-negotiable. I'm so grateful to the Happy Place family for letting me in on all the fun.

Today I learned that when you're close hauled, if the inner tell tales on the jib are doing anything other than streaming straight back then you're pinching and it's the first warning sign before the sails start to luff.

Jayne and I went out with Greg on his 40ft Hunter so that Jayne could help him trouble shoot his new sails.

I saw some very impressive marine electronics and got to steer the boat for almostthe whole time. We actually had great wind for early August and it was hard!

I learned a trick for releasing the jib where you squeez the rope on the winch with your left hand while pulling the rope out of the teeth of the winch taughtly with your right hand so that you don't loose anything while you're prepping to release.

Colin and I did a test run up to the Rhode river before we took the kids. I'm feeling way more comfortable with the chart navigation after that. We also managed to find some more shallow water on the way in so now we now to go to the far side of the bay and cut in. The way up the wind got pretty light so Colin practiced fishing while underway. It took us a long time to get up there but once we did it was magical. There was just a handful of other boats in the anchorage and the stars (and satelites) were beautiful. We got the anchor down and up without any major fights and managed to stay in one place (note to self, bring gardening gloves).
