Number of days:

  • Alan in a rare picture, he doesn't kayak very often as he prefers sailing.
  • Toward the Potomac, this time a sunny day around 80 degrees.
  • A settled osprey couple.
  • And there I am.

Alan and I leisurely paddled around the creek, down to party cove and thereabouts.saw 3 or 4 occupied osprey nests, I guess they all are settling down after yesterday's frantic courtship maneuvers. Must have worked.

  • Where the eagles nest was last year
  • Toward the Potomac
  • Cloudy
  • Mr. Impressive Osprey

Almost 80 degrees out, in March no less, so had to get out on the water. Needed to dig handfuls of sand out of my kayak that somehow found it's way in over the winter,  but won't be able to get it all out until the water is turned back on and I can really clean it up with the hose. Paddled over to where I saw the eagles last summer but didn't see anything,  not even the nest, which should have been fairly visible without the leaves. Did it blow away in one of the winter storms? Watched the osprey whopping it up as they were doing their mating/courting dances.  Watched one male fly straight up, hover in place like a drone,  flapping his wings, then straight down in a nose dive bomb. The female near by was not impressed but I sure was.  I mean, well, not impressed enough to... sorry Mr. O, wrong species here. A little cloudy out but I'll take this weather. Bring it on, summer!

  • Passed by schooner Eye of the Wind
  • The crew
  • Sunsets

We joined Sail Solomons Flotilla event for a week of sailing in the French island Martinique.  85 degrees most days but a good amount of Caribbean rain squalls. We were on a 42 foot catamaran. A lot of fun especially since we missed the extreme cold weather in Northern VA.

  • At the helm of the Kiwi Kruzer
  • Mattox Creek

Tok the pontoon boat to the marina to get pulled out, winterize, and stored. Goodbye boat until April. Way to cold to go kayaking these days do chances are this is my last day on the water,  until we go to Matinique in January.  I think this is Day 106 for 2024.

  • Caught him taking off.
  • Water was so cslm
  • Eagles in his tree

I can't even believe I'm able to go out this late in the season. 66 degrees, but 4pm and the sun was pretty much behind the trees, so it was chilly. Paddled across the creek to check on my eagles, one was there. Kayak is put away for the winter, too cold.

Number of days:
1 day
  • Lone swan
  • Friends Michelle and Marilene.
  • Other swans showed up to keep the lone swan company. There were 5 total but they didn't cooperate staying all together for a pic.
  • Yep, that's me. Lots of waves in the wind, hard to stay steady to pose for the pic.

Except it was super windy. Went out with friends, air temp around 78 but water was chilly. Wind was causing white caps on the creek which always cracks me up.

  • Gaggles of geese
  • Well, I caught his back end.
  • Seagulls
  • Trees turning.
  • Beautiful colors in the sunlight.

Flooding tides, rain, gale force winds, cold temps,  and babysitting grandkids have all kept me from getting on the water past 3 weeks. But today was a gorgeous fall day, temps mid 70s, no wind, and I dug my kayak out of the sand that had impaled it with the flooding tides and wind we've had. Poor kayak was full of sand. I kayaked to all my favorite haunts. Lots of seagulls, herons, and geese about. No eagles sighted at all. Very nice day on the water.

  • Looking out of the cockpit
  • Les and Alan at the wheel
  • Alan in charge
  • 12 swans a'swiming by our dock

A friend across the creek invited us out for a sail in the Potomac. Beautiful day out.  Even hot, nice after the week of clouds and rain. Very cool boat but not a lot of wind which was ok by me as I really don't like keeling. But the flying bugs were nasty.

  • That's me! Taken by Alan in his sailboat.
  • That speck is Alan in his boat. Arrow is helpfully pointing him out.
  • Alan in his boat
  • Our neighbors yard flooded with the really high tide
  • Not my friend.

Rain and wind have kept me off the water past few days but today was perfect albeit a bit cold, in the low 70s. Tide was really high when I went out so ventured way far into one of the marsh trails, further than I've ever gone before. Met Alan en route as he was coming in from sailing. While putting my kayak up on the beach where I keep it during the summer, al met up with a friend who really startled me. He was like 2 feet away ftom me as I was clipping the kayak to its mooring. I was afraid he was going to slither into the kayak ( if that had happened I would have had to buy a new one) but he headed out to sea thank God.
