Century Club: Keith Midgette
Point to Point Race from Old Point Comfort Marina to Salt Ponds Marina, about a 6 mile race. Another light air affair, but we were able to keep Luna Blu close to the 3rd and 4th boat.
Fun start and great sail until the sun went down, then the wind died and we had to retire when the current overcame our forward progress~
Just a fun sail!
Decent start, good breeze, third place!
After losing the spinnaker pole over the side on the way back from the OPCYC Yankee Station Series Race right off Fort Monroe when the Genoa sheet wrapped under the pole in its stanchion bracket and an inadvertent guns sent it flying. One of my crew coordinated with a boat owner whose boat was equipped with a side scan sonar and diver to see if we could locate the spinnaker pole. Unfortunately it was a little windy with 2 foot swells and a knot or two of current. Rick gave it a good try, attempting two dives, but the visibility was almost zero and he was unable to locate whatever it was that Nick saw on the sonar. But, it was a good try, and we had a good time and I made some new friends.
Terrible start in light wind but managed to pull out a 4th place
3rd place out of 3 in light air to begin with, then it picked up on the last leg. After finishing the race my crew wanted to get some spinnaker practice in so rather than go back to the club for drinks, hoisted the spinnaker and had a wonderful sail.
New crew, good wind, good time.
Getting our granddaughter aka “Lil Commodore” out on Luna Blu
