Sailing in March!

Used the sailboat as a barge to put in two bumpers on our new dock -- to protect Lark as she's readying to enter the lift.  First two screws on each side went into the bumpers just fine, but the lower ones required us to put Lark perpindicular to the dock and use her open stern to best advantage.  Wonderful to have such a low boat for this work!

Then put the house battery in and installed the genoa and the main for the first time this season and then took her out.  Beautiful 63 degree day with 8-10 knots of breeze gave us 4-4.6 knots upwind and 3.2-3.6 knots running home.  Still working out making the turn to get Lark up close to the dock so we can get her in the lift.  A work in progress.  But a great start to the sailing year!

Leap Day provided an opportunity to get out again; been a while, and good to loosen up and get out there.

Sailboat Delivery -- home to new dock

After getting our new dock installed during the last half of January and the first half of February, was thrilled to be able to drive my sailboat from Smith's Marina back home to my new dock.  Although the lift wouldn't lower enough to allow the boat to get on it when I arrived, I waited two hours, the water rose, and I was able to get the boat on.  A brand-new winter cover was installed the same day, and I was excited to end up with my boat on my new dock in its new cover.  In time for bad weather!

February kayaking

Had a nice ride early in the afternoon up Valentine Creek and then over through Plum Creek and then home.  Water was about 40, so stayed close to land.  Hadn't been out for a while, and felt it!  And afterwards got cleaned up and went to the SpinSheet Century Club party at Bacon Sails!

Kayaking in February

59 degrees out, and whle it was cloudy, the opportunity to go kayaking was too good to pass up.  Rode under our new dock for the first time, which is high enough up above the water that I can go completely under it.  Checked out how docks are constructed, and then the wiring for the lifts and lights.  Then had a beautiful ride around Valentine Creek.  Beautiful!

Sailboat Delivery

On a nice 48 degree day with light breezes from the NW, used the engine to take my 24' sailboat of my lift on my old dock and drive it to the local Marina for hauling out while our dock is torn out and replaced with a new one with two new lifts.  Took a record of only 30 minutes, since with this boat I can easily go 4-5 knots under power -- woo hoo!

Kayaking on New Years Eve

47 degrees out with no wind, so I set off a few minutes before sunset towards the headwaters of Valentine Creek.  Just ducks out, didn't even see an Osprey or any Geese.  Only saw one powerboat.  Peasceful, quiet, and beautiful sunset.  End of a great year of boating, having been on the water over 100 days for the third year in a row, with a new high total over 110.  Fabulous!

Sailing on Christmas in Round Bay

Astounding to have 53 degree weather with 5-7 knots of breeze on Christmas, so I took Lark out for two hours on the afternoon of Christmas Day.  Wearing a Santa Hat.  Wonderful sunny day kept me warm on the water; had a wonderful time.

Sailing after work. In December!

Another warm day in the mid-50's with decent breeze, so took Lark out for 1.5 hours of sailing on a Friday afternoon.  Wonderful to have a boat in the back yard on a lift, and have warm enough weather even in December!  Got rear-ended trying to leave DC that afternoon, and sailing that night was the perfect tonic.  Went past sunset and even had festive lights to display, as it were!
