It felt good to be on the helm!
Century Club: Bob Ohler
Nursing an injured back and onboard Neptune's Wager, 4 of us got out and sailed up the Pax River, under the Solomons Bridge, and back south again so we could take in the sunset!
#104 Our last race of the year! We lost by 13 seconds to the one boat we wanted to beat. However, it was a great day of late November sailing on the Pax River.
Day #103 on the water for me in 2024 … Today, with winds blowing 18, gusting 30, the skipper of Sailing team Barba Roja 73052 and I took the boat out on the Pax River for some chilly-weather sailing. It was great sailing right up until we blew out 4 slugs on the main sail. We took down the damaged sail and continued on with just the storm jib, regularly hitting speeds of 5 knots. It was a great afternoon for these two great friends!
#102 It doesn’t get any better than this! Frostbite Racing with my son, Captain Dave Ohler, as part of the crew on Barba Roja!
On a breezy, 80-degree day, I celebrated my 101st day on the water and my 68th birthday! It was indeed a day that was made for our boat. It’s what we call, “a Cape Dory Day! It will go down as one of my top-ten sailing days of all time. The winds were 15, gusting 20, before lying down later in the afternoon I was maintaining speeds of 6 and 7+ knots. It was perfect! The new sail from Rolly Tasker is great, and the boat is faster because of it. Sailing single-handed, I sailed up the Patuxent River, under the bridge, past Point Patience and up to Sotterly before making the turn. It was a day when I just wanted to keep going and going. I made the turn, and came back down the river without needing to tack until I came into Back Creek and dropping the sails. The log read 18 miles for the day, over the 4 hours that I was out. This was a great one!
#100! In a year when I didn't think I was going to make it, I had my 100th day on the water, while making a delivery with Captain Dave Ohler. This is my 3rd consecutive Century Club, and third year in a row making it with Dave. One way or another, I continue to achieve C100 with my son, Captain Dave!
#99! On a wet, choppy, chilly day, I got #99 in the books, which sets me up for #100 with Dave tomorrow. It wasn’t really that chilly until I started getting back to back waves over the side. I may need a dry suit!
#97 and #98... #97 was difficult as I had already been to cardio rehab that morning. #98 was a good, tough, honest paddling trip to the Breezy Point inlet.
