For Father's Day, my son and daughter-in-law, gave me a really nice carbon-handled kayak paddle. I could not wait to try it so I went out just as it was getting dark. It is a literally a difference of night and day! Thanks kids!

I had a good morning on the kayak, heading north along the cliffs. Against a light breeze and no chop, I went about halfway to the scout camp and back. It was a good workout for the arms and shoulders.
Not our best day racing. Birchfield was on the RC boat, and Jonathan tested positive. Dewey did a great job on tge helm, but we were over early by 5 minutes and it became a practice evening on the water.
Today, I helped Tyler and Max move their new to them Catalina 27 to their new slip at Calvert Marina. Everything went as planned
I decided to kayak this evening, in a chop and strong breezes, approximately 15 knots out the NE. What I discovered was it was not so much the chop as the wind that made my paddling difficult. It was still another day on the water and a good upper body workout.
We pulled the hook and got underway around 10:00. The air was light north of the bridge, however after motor sailing under the bridge, we found the wind, blowing right into the river. It was great sailing, hitting speeds of 6.8 knots.
We pulled in around 2:00, cleaned the boat, and I headed for the showers.
On board Barba Roja, we had our best start of the year! Unfortunately, we were not good enough to beat Elan, as we finished second. We got in just before the rains came.
We backed out of the slip on 6/7 for our annual, one-night shakedown cruise. The sailing was great, especially north of the Solomons bridge, as we criss crossed back and forth across the Pax River. We anchored in 12 feet of water in Folks Cove #2, to provide protection from the forecasted southerly winds.
I had my longest trip in the new kayak today, paddling north to the Boy Scout Camp and back. The return trip was tough against the wind and chop, but it was still a great day to be on the Chesapeake!
Next to Christmas, launch day is the happiest day of the year. The Aloha Spirit got splashed and I moved her to her slip. We installed the sails, and today she is gently tugging on her dock lines.
