In a just for fun, non-points race, we raced Barba Roja without Steve on board. We had a blast and finished in the middle of the pack.

We sailed our butts off this weekend. We just weren't good enough to beat the Ranger 33, or C2. Still, it was great, competitive racing!
Sailing Team Barba Roja sailed well as a team but it just wasn't enough to beat Elan or C2.
Launched the kayak on a dead-flat Bay. Padded south to the Breezy Point bulkhead. A SE breeze came up as I paddled north, back past The Willows, north to the dead trees in front of the cliffs, and returned. I hosed kayak out when I got back. It was a nice afternoon on the water.
The forecasted 12-14 knots of wind did not live up to its billing, but I made the most of it with the yankee, staysail, and full main flying. The top speed I saw on the GPS was 5.8 and if the wind had held up I know I would have made over 7 knots. Nonetheless, it was a great afternoon of solo sailing in the Pax River Basin and out into the Chesapeake.
It was a hot, light air night of racing against Elan and C2. They both filed protests against each other, so we don't yet know the final results.
I got out early in the morning and headed south. I went to the Breezy Point inlet, paddled way back into the marina, before turning around and heading back. The breeze was out the west and WNW, so I hugged the shoreline to make the paddling easier coming home. I saw 4 herons all together and a 5th one nearby. As I was approaching the kayak ramp, I saw the osprey defending the area around the nest. This was a great trip and workout!
The going North was much tougher than I anticipated. The breeze was building, and the paddling was difficult. I paddled to the first or second downed tree in front of the cliffs and then turned and headed home. The wind was brisk enough that the boat kept trying to turn into the wind. It was a good workout none the less.
I took advantage of the cloud cover on a hot and humid day to get out the water. I paddled North to the deck in the cliffs and back. The water was calm and there was on a slight SE breeze on the return trip. Good workout, and good paddling!
I got up & out early and enjoyed the Bay from 6:15 until 7:15. I paddled south into a slight chop to the Breezy Point bulkhead and back. It's a great time of day to be on the water! I was home in time to enjoy a second cup of coffee with my soul mate.
