Took the visiting brothers and family via the Kiwi Kruzer to Dockside, a local restaurant on the water, great day. Had good orange crushes tghere. Alan stayed sober and captained us home.
Century Club: Karen Wood
Rode around mattox creek and the Potomac with my brothers and wives, and Alan. Today was the first day was able to get the boat on the lift without destroying anything.
Somewhat coolish day out, in mid 60's. But I wanted more boat driving practice before family descends on us in a few days. Meandered around the creek. I tried to dock the boat on the lift and failed miserably. Alan had to do it, he makes it look so easy.
Alan and I took the pontoon boat across the Potomac river to Cobb Island. Beautiful day out. Bought gas for the first time, gag, almost $100 for 17 gallons. Boat is officially named the Kiwi Kruzer. Appropriate stickers are applied.
Fishing for catfish off the dock. Alan tells me this counts as a day on the water, so I'll take it! We caught 5 big catfish which will go into the crab pots.
Alan and I kayaked around the creek, pretty windy until we went around the point and then very calm. Able to get my feet in the water so I guess the water is getting warmer. Wish it were 85 degrees tho.
Took the pontoon boat out, practiced "docking" next to crab pots. Cool day. After about 8 tries to pull into our slip, and aborting ach time because I couldn't get the boat to straighten up, I pulled in, breaking yet another guide pole. I hate this boat. I can't get the cover on/off by myself, can't dock, it's just too big of a boat for me. Anyone want to buy it?
Went to the Solomons Island Marine Museum Festival. Lots to see and do. Besutiful day out, including a cruise around the harbor on the Tennison. Surprised how few people were at the festival, we thought is was spectacular.
Is there a trick to getting these pics to not be sideways? I'm not taking then sideways.
Boy were we ever surprised by a racoon hopping out while we were taking the cover off the pontoon boat. I thought it was a cat at first, hey, I'm no naturalist. No idea how or why he was under there. Once we got over the surprise from each other, he hid at first inside the middle toon but once we lowered the boat off the lift and started the engine he scampered onto the dock and hid underneath it. Not wanting to instigate a confrontation we went out on our way so I could practice steering and docking . Hopefully he will be able to find his way back onto the land and leave our boat alone. But we're going to be very cautious about taking off the cover in the future. I am amazed he didn't rip the cushions up or shred the cover. They can be very vicious. At any rate I still can't dock the boat, Alan had to ultimately do it. I am a wimp.
Took my new pontoon boat out on the Potomac for its true inaugural run. Out about 1.5 hours. Alan and I had fun
Went down to Horseheads cliffs and hung out for a while. Mildly choppy out but boat handled well. Spectacular weather. 85 degrees and sunny.
Need more practice docking. Managed to crash into the dock bringng the boat in and took out one of the guide poles on the lift. Amazingly. Alan didn't yell at me.
