Took Heron out for a spin and enjoyed the apparent wind we made, keeping ourselves from melting. Ended up in the Rhode River, anchored near Whisper, and spent about 3 hours just floating. Too hot to do anything else.

Expecting the worst in heat and humidity, it was a joy to find a breezy and warm morning.
Crab Creek to Church Creek.
It's been a long long weekend of too much sun, heat, sweat and wine, and not enough sleep. Got out early enough this morning to avoid the heat, but I'm still exhausted. Paddling to Little Aberdeen Creek, with Rick on his SUP, was a chore.
But we've also fashioned a new rope attachment point for my kayak, which will hopefully make getting on and off less stressful for both me and the 'yak.
Picture is from Lake Ogleton, where I swore I'd never swim, but it was so hot that we did anyway. Blame it on peer pressure.
A steamy, suffocating day. The plan was to join friends on Pinafore (docked on the South River) for an AYC concert raft-up on Lake Ogleton, where we'd tie up with Whisper.
Best laid plans....
Whisper was out with engine trouble, and Pinafore's guest list seemed to be getting longer. Enter Heron. We picked up the hobbled Whisper crew on our boat, speeded to Lake Ogleton, and staked out a likely anhoring spot. They soon joined us, as did Beggar's Tomb.
Wine, food, conversation followed. The heat ultimately drove some of us -- including me -- into water I'd had no plan to swim in. I keep a swimsuit on each boat just in case of such emergencies.
The storms cleared, but the humidity did not. Nevertheless, we motored the short distance from Liberty Marina to the mouth of Almshouse Creek on the Edgewater side of the South River. Lots of boats jockeying for position, and lots of wake, but it eventually settled for the fireworks display.
We watched the crew of one small powerboat haplessly attempt to anchor a half dozen times and felt their pain. So, rather than be the smug, safely anchored, old folks sitting in our deck chairs, sipping chenin blanc and reveling in the compliments tossed towards our ancient but pretty boat, we waved them over and gave them a bit of advice. With Rick's guidance to let our a LOT more scope, they nailed it. Such a boy scout.
We were back at Liberty in minutes, but Heron hates to back, so docking in the dark was a trial. We eventually made it.
Fresh breeze made it a pleasure to be out on the water. Cra b Creek to Church Creek.
First timer. Hitched a ride with Brett and Erica Smith on their center console and crossed the Bay. After lunch, we came back to the South River and swam in Harness Creek. Couldn't be a nicer day for it.
[Edited because this was the second "day" counted for the same calendar day.]
Never thought I'd get this far, but here it is: Day 67. Gotta keep up the momentum, though it was easy today, on such a beautiful morning. Too bad the holiday is looking sucky.
Finally got some much needed rain overnight, which made the creek feel a lot more fresh. Almost no gunk to clean off the kayak after my trip to Church Creek.
